Yesterday, I received one of the highest forms of compliments from a past client of mine from 2011. I designed several different wedding albums for her, including a parent album for her Mom and one for her Grandmother (none of which were published here per client's wishes to keep her photos private). This client sent me a hand-written thank you note for being an important part of her wedding. It's times like this that I really, truly love what I do and am so glad that I can play a role in a bride and groom's new life together!

These samples are from a client I had who contacted me through my Etsy shop (http://www.etsy.com/shop/RelanderDesigns). She ordered a 38-page, 12 x 12, onyx black bonded-leather cover wedding album. She also included silver embossing on the front, which included her wedding date.

She was a wonderful client to work with; totally letting me take the lead and have complete "creative power" with designing the album. She even put me in charge for how many pages were in the album! I love it when clients are so easy going like that :)

1st Birthday Invitation, 2nd Birthday Invitation, and Birth Announcement

It's been a while since I've posted some of the cards I have completed. So that's what I'm going to do now!

The first one is a 1st birthday invite. The card measured 5 x 7 and was printed on our metallic paper, included rounded corners, and had a UV gloss coating.

This one was a 2nd birthday invitation that featured a "cutout" of the child and a illustration of Mickey Mouse. The card measured 4.25 x 5.5 and was printed on metallic paper and had a UV gloss coating.

This last one is a birth announcement that measured 5 x 7. It was printed on standard paper with a UV gloss coating and included rounded corners. One of the pictures might look familiar :)

I wanted to share with you a few spreads from a wedding guest book that I recently completed for a bride and husband-to-be. The designs were printed on a hinge-bound photo book that lays flat so the guests can easily write on the pages.

Being able to use your engagement photos and having white space around the images really gives you a keepsake, not just a book. And guests have the freedom to write you a little message or a note of congratulations, without worrying about running out of space as you would in the traditional guest book. It is a really nice alternative to your normal guest book that you will probably store away and not look at again. Contact me for more information!

These are some spreads from a 32-page, 10x10 album. This bride included 109 images, which was almost too many to work with, but I got it done! (Normally, I suggest more around 80 images for that many pages.) Brides are always welcome to add more images, it can just sometimes make the pages look a little too cluttered and it limits the amount of one/two-image spreads, which really make an impact in my opinion.

One of the photographers I regularly work with, Rick Jennisch Photography, had the opportunity to photograph a wedding in Jamaica over the summer. It's not every day that I get to design a wedding album with images taken from there! The images are absolutely stunning. I wish that I could've devoted one image per spread in this album, but we made due with the space available.

This album measures a little differently than what I normally design. It is a 9.5 x 13" album with a full metal cover and includes 44 pages. I will try to get some pics posted of the finished product if I can at a later time, but you will have to make due with my sample spreads for now :)

I had a bride contact me through Etsy last September and she wanted a flush-mount album designed for her. We finally got the album exactly the way she was wanting and I think she will be really pleased with the outcome! This is one of the albums that I will be featuring on my website as a finished album sample for clients to look through from start to end.

The finished album is 12 x 12, has 42-pages, and includes a two-tone black and light blue leather cover with a large vertical cameo opening. The cover goes perfectly with her beach-themed wedding!

I don't have any pictures to post of this album design because the bride requested not to have them be posted online (which is completely fine to do, by-the-way), but I still wanted to talk about the album a bit.

She decided to go with a hinge-bound, photo cover photo book for her images. The nice thing about that is that the price was quite a bit cheaper than a normal album and she was able to get 70 pages in and not be at the max size! The album size was also a bit different than I was used too because it was an 11x14, but I really love how the pages turned out. It's always nice to work on something a little different than the norm.

I guess I will attach some pictures after all because I just realized that I never posted the photo book pictures of the "C" wedding I did a while back in February. So this will give you an idea of what the hinge-bound book looks like (this one had 30 pages I believe).

Here is a 20-page, 10x10 album that I just completed for Rick Jennisch Photography. I normally don't use colors besides black, white, and sometimes tan, but this bride's beautiful flowers just begged me to use the bright pink color!

I LOVED the picture taken of the bride and groom by the water, and that is now one of my favorite spreads ever. It's nice to be able to use less images on spreads so the pictures can really speak for themselves. That's why I always tell a client that sometimes, less is more!

I've recently started working with a local photographer, Shauna Welch Photography, who just this month switched to doing photography full-time. She had me put together a 30-page, 10x10 book for one of her brides. Instead of getting one of the albums I have showcased here, we went with a lay-flat, hinge-bound press book (aka: photo book).

I received the press book yesterday and boy am I in love!! It is such a nice way to showcase your wedding images without having to spend the money on a full-blown album. I will try to post some images another day of the finished product so you can see what I am talking about. For now, here are a few of the spreads from the book.

I just realized that I never posted those pictures I had taken of a finished wedding album. So, here they are!

This is what a 50-page, flush-mount wedding album looks like. The client choose rounded corners and to have the bride and groom's names and wedding date embossed on the cover in gold. The album is covered in leather and the color is called Coffee Bean. There are a couple of close-up pictures, showing the extremely tight gutter seam (1mm).

This was a large, 50-page, 12x12 leather cover wedding album that was just approved and sent to print today. The images were sent to me by a bride because there had been issues with her photographer. This was the largest album I have ever worked on (dimension-wise and page count wise), so it was a nice challenge. I am having this album mailed to me first so I can get some pictures of the actual book, so I will eventually have those pictures to post as well. Here you go!

Sometimes, a simpler album can have just the same effect as a busier, more unique album. I went a little more on the simpler side with this album because I thought it worked better with the images. I absolutely LOVE the color of the girls' dresses and the flowers. And I normally don't use white as a background color, but for the "getting ready" pics, I thought white worked nicely with the pink and white dress. This was a 24-page, 10x10 album. For the past couple of weeks, I have been working with a local photographer, Theresa Ousley of Wiz of Oz Photography, on creating a collage window display for her new studio. It was more of a collaborative design and this is what we finally came up with. The display measures 30 x 45 inches and was mounted on black gator board (the bottom is blank on purpose). Sometime, I will get to her studio and take a picture of it up in the window.

A Finished Photo Book | Quad Cities Designer

I thought you might like to see what a finished photo book looks like. This was a 20-page, 8x8 photo book printed at Shutterfly.com. Shutterfly does a pretty good job if you are on a budget and don't want to spend a little bit more to get it professionally printed.

The only problem with this book was that the pages were put together out of order! I contacted Shutterfly and they sent me another book, good as new. I was very happy with how the finished book turned out! It is so neat to see the designs go from concept, to design, to finished product!

There are so many little details that you have to consider and it can really be a stressful time in a person's life. The first one is a 5x7 price sheet I designed for a local photographer, Rick Jennisch and his associate, Felicia Bonynge.

The next card is a 5x7 invite I designed for my sister-in-law's baby shower. Her bedding set is called "Abby's Farm" and the characters on the invite match the characters on her bedding.

I also designed the top of her cake. Here is the design:

Here is the actual cake. The color turned out a little more peach than pink, but I thought the lady who made the cake did a good job!

Hey everyone! This is my first post to the Relander Designs Blog. I have been slowly working on my website, RelanderDesigns.com. It's up and running, but I don't have a lot of content added yet to the site. I am still working on samples and designs to post so everyone can see what exactly Relander Designs is all about.

In the meantime, I am going to post a few designs on here that I have been working on or designs that I have done for customers/family. Feel free to post any comments you'd like and make sure to keep checking back as I continue to add more content and work on updating the website.
